The story begins with Kamala discovering a mysterious golden bangle—an ancestral heirloom from her grandmother—which activates her latent ability to harness cosmic energy and create "hard light" constructs. Her journey takes her from the streets of Jersey City to Karachi, Pakistan, where she uncovers her family's history tied to the and her great-grandmother's origins as a Clandestine .
